Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) is a three-year pathfinder programme aimed at supporting the development of innovative models of therapeutic and holistic mental health support in schools for children and young people aged 5 to 13 at risk of, and/or experiencing, mental health problems; and their families.
The programme began in April 2008 when 25 local authorities (LAs) and their corresponding Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) commenced pathfinder work. The LAs and PCTs taking part in this first phase are: Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Brighton and Hove, Bury, Cornwall, Coventry, Gateshead, Gloucestershire, Hackney, Kent, Leicester City, Leeds, Lincolnshire, Luton, Merton, Norfolk, North East Lincolnshire, Northumberland, Reading, Suffolk, Southwark, Shropshire, Sunderland, Swindon, and Wolverhampton.
For more information, please read the TaMHS pathfinders press release.
TaMHS roll-out
The national roll-out was launched on 18 November 2008 and LAs and their corresponding PCTs are invited to submit expressions of interest to take part. For more information, please read the press notice.
The programme will run from 2008 to 2011 and the roll-out consists
of two further phases as follows:
Phase 2 - 55 LAs and their corresponding PCTs will enrol in
April 2009 and will receive a funding grant for two years until March 2011.
Phase 3 - 72 LAs and their corresponding PCTs will enrol in April 2010 and will receive funding for one year March 2011.
Expressions of interest are now invited from LAs and their partner PCTs interested in working with three to six secondary schools and their feeder primary schools to deliver better support for children at risk of, or experiencing, mental health problems; and their families.
The deadline for receipt of expressions of interest is noon on Tuesday 9 December 2008. The results of the TaMHS phase 2 authorities will be announced in mid December 2008.
